I lived in Montauk for the past 30 years. I recently moved in 2018 to Litchfield CT. I attended NYU and graduated with a BA in art history.
I used to be a fiber artist, knitting by hand and machine, one of a kind clothing and knitted paintings. I used a machine that had a computer attached that would knit what drawing I fed it. Of course, learning the right yarns to use etc. was a challenge but always a remarkable discovery.
I desired a change of medium so I became involved with gardening and design and worked in that field for about 15 years. I took workshops and worked in various nurseries and for assorted designers, being exposed to all aspects of gardening. Because I am creative I picked up the design aspect of creating landscapes and gardens and started my own business.
About the same time, I became interested in sumie painting, or chinese brush painting. I always loved watercolor and was attracted to the fluidity, simplicity of brushstroke, and its discipline and meditative quality. Because my background in gardening was arranging textures and colors, it was very similar to painting. I primarily paint flowers, landscapes, and abstracts. The painting allowed me to express the landscapes I love working in, the one I live in, and the ones I create in my mind.
Just recently I was attracted to acrylic pour paintings. I watched lots of videos and jumped right in. I love this technique because of the freedom it gives me and the unpredictability in the results. For right now I am concentrating on this type of painting and having lots of fun!

Color, nature, flowers, and chance all contribute to my stimulus to paint. I love not knowing what will happen when combining different colors and techniques. This is my force to go further.
Trying new ways is very important...always experimenting. All these things give me great freedom with my work and forges me onward to discover something new and exciting!
Everyone sees something different in my work. In that way they make the painting theirs. It's a personal journey for me and you. - Gerry Sacks
